Our Story

Baba Fishees was started from a spare bedroom in October 2018 by Sarah Hubbard.  As long as she could remember she loved beautiful things, always drawn to colour, creativity and abstract art, design and photography, her love of animals started when she was very young and continues.  Furthermore, her love of expressive and descriptive words and a endless sense of humour keeps her motivated.  Design is not just a hobby, you could say "it is just part of who I am and what comes naturally to me".

We are very much inspired by our African continent, its natural beauty, wildlife and fauna.  We love Africa and all that it offers.

Beautiful high quality cottons is a mantra not a negotiation, we struggled to find prints that we loved, so we commissioned, sourced and set about printing our own fabrics - wow, how much fun are we having.  We work with local South African knitting mills who have decades of experience in the cotton market.

We are about building South Africa, one job at a time, we believe that a lot of the issues in South Africa are economic, there are either not enough jobs or not enough well paying jobs.  We believe in paying our staff a "living wage" and are against any form of exploitation, often seen in the clothing industry.  Consider the cost of making a product, in terms of time and fabric and printing, packaging and then think about how long it takes, if you're paying less than what you think, we say think again!

In January 2022 another Sarah joined the business, so we are two Sarahs now, Sarah brings a wealth of experience in operational execution and project management and buying and supply chain management.  She has been instrumental in getting us working like a well oiled machine.  Sarah studied in interior design and is a mother of two little children, as mothers we understand the juggling of time and family.

Come join us on this adventure - we will make sure that we will create memories in your mind so when you think back one day, we want you to say "oh, I remember when he/she wore that outfit and where we were" - may these memories then sustain you and make you smile.

Hoping to hear from you all soon

Sarah
